Zara compelled to pull ‘sexually suggestive’ kids’ shirt after sparking public outrage

Zara has apologized following public outrage over a ‘suggestive’ design featured on a children’s shirt.

When shopping for kids’ clothes, you might not give much thought to the messages or designs, but one video has prompted a change in perspective.

The shirt gained attention through a TikTok video by user chaos.to.sanity, whose real name is Laura Wilson, stirring significant concern among parents.

Wilson spoke to the New York Post, describing her reaction upon finding the shirt in a UK Zara store: it made her ‘feel physically sick’ and she deemed it ‘completely unnecessary and inappropriate.’

“I am not one to be overly sensitive about clothing but I was in Zara the other day and this was in the girls section,” Wilson said in her video.

If you think this is wrong – please let me know so i don’t feel crazy… is this wrong? Or not? Personally, I’m disgusted – who is buying this t-shirt for their child?!! #zara #disgusted #foryou #fyp #fypviralシ #makethisviral

“Just wait until you see the back,” she added.

On the front, the shirt displays the words, ‘The Strawberry: A small burst of sweet joy’ alongside the phrase ‘the perfect snack’ on one side.

Wilson continued, “If you have bought this for your child, you need serious words with yourself, in my opinion. I am so shocked.”

She then flipped the shirt to reveal an image of a strawberry cut in half with the words ‘Take A Bite’ beneath it.

The shirt continued, “A burst of sweet delight. Making for the perfect summer snack,” written in quotation marks.

Wilson further criticized the shirt: “Is it just me or is this just not okay? I would never have my girls in this T-shirt.

“Is it just me or is this just plain wrong in plain sight?”

She even captioned her TikTok with: “If you think this is wrong – please let me know so I don’t feel crazy… is this wrong? Or not? Personally, I’m disgusted – who is buying this t-shirt for their child?!!”

Wilson was not alone, as many on social media expressed equal shock over the shirt’s implications.

According to the Independent, Zara has since issued an apology and pulled the shirt from their stores.

“There was no intention for the use of the word ‘snack’ on this T-shirt to imply anything other than the traditional meaning of the word, as evidenced by the image of a strawberry on the garment,” the company stated.

“However, we now understand that some individuals have interpreted the term differently.

“Therefore, we have removed the T-shirt from stores and our website.”
