Parting ways is challenging, especially when you’re in the spotlight.
Zoë Kravitz has opted to remain composed and quiet following her breakup with Channing Tatum.
The duo initially crossed paths when she chose him for a part in her first film as a director, Blink Twice.
Instead of speaking ill, Kravitz has publicly lauded her former partner for his contributions to the project.
In a discussion with The Batman director Matt Reeves during one of Variety’s Directors on Directors interviews, Kravitz explained her reasons for choosing Channing.
She mentioned her intent to ‘weaponize his charisma,’ and it’s easy to understand that choice.
“Channing was the first person I thought of for Slater King, and I don’t know where that came from,” she commented about his role.
Tatum portrays a well-off billionaire in the psychological thriller, and she noted that viewers have ‘never seen him’ in such a role before.
The two ended their engagement in October, yet Kravitz continues to speak kindly about him.
“I knew that the character needed to be somebody who we think we trust, especially because you don’t believe Naomi [Ackie] (who played Frida) is getting on that plane if it’s someone who is immediately insidious,” Kravitz explained.
In a 2021 interview, she stated: “[He was the one] I thought of when I wrote this character. I just knew from Magic Mike and his live shows, I got the sense he’s a true feminist and I wanted to collaborate with someone who was clearly interested in exploring this subject matter.”
She also noted it was ‘delicious’ watching Channing take on a villainous role for a change.
Kravitz disclosed: “He was doing such a good job, and as an actor, I’m like, ‘This is delicious stuff that he’s never gotten a chance to do,'” she remarked.
“And also, he’s doing this part because he’s an ally. He wants to tell this story.”
The pair previously championed the film as a couple and cherished the experience of collaborating with a loved one.
Tatum expressed to PEOPLE magazine: “To get to create something with someone that you love is probably one of the most gratifying things.”
“We got to work together and go through hard things together and support each other, and it was beautiful,” Kravitz concurred.
Their relationship first gained attention in August 2021 when they were seen together in New York.
They began mentioning each other in interviews at the beginning of 2022.
An engagement followed in October 2023, but it lasted only a year as a source noted ‘they realized they’re at different stages in life.’
Despite parting, the two have another project titled Alpha Gang to collaborate on.
Although working with an ex might be daunting for many, they remain enthusiastic about it, according to a source.
An insider shared: “They will continue to work together and are excited about a new project. They both love filming and creating. Channing has a lot of respect for Zoë’s focus and passion.”
