Incredible photographs that appear to show two male lions mating (and totally ignoring a lioness nearby) have brought to light the prevalence of homosexuality in wild animals.
The two male lions were snapped by Belgian tourist Nicole Cambre on a safari trip in Botswana and was told by the guide that the lions’ unusual behavior had been going on for a week.
“One of the lions was wearing a collar and our guide thought they may have crossed from Namibia.”
“The lions showed no interest in the lioness leading to the assumption that she may be pregnant,” said Nicole.
“It is the first time I have seen homosexual behavior in lions, but when reading about it on my return, it is not that uncommon.”
Although it doesn’t “prove” homosexuality in wild animals, biologists have recorded same-sex activity across more than 450 species including flamingoes, bison, warthogs, and even beetles.
