Grandmother, 63, and 26-year-old husband give worrying baby update after announcing first child

Earlier this year, Cheryl McCain, a 63-year-old grandmother with 18 grandchildren, and her 26-year-old husband Quran shared exciting news: they were planning to start their own family. Their relationship, which began when Quran was 23 after weeks of bonding, has been a hot topic on social media. The couple started dating in April 2021 and quickly moved to marry in September of the same year. They’ve since used joint online accounts to share their life together, often facing harsh criticism. Despite this, they’ve taken a significant step towards parenthood by finding a surrogate, announcing in May that they are expecting a baby, which has elicited mixed reactions on TikTok.

Cheryl expressed her joy, stating, “It was an amazing feeling to find out we were going to have a baby. We get to start our own family. I am the happiest now than I have ever been before. It will make our family so much happier as we will love the baby unconditionally.” Quran, sharing his excitement, added, “I cried with tears of joy when I found out. This will be my very first’s child. I have never felt love like this apart from the time I got married to Cheryl.”

However, the journey has not been without its challenges. In a recent emotional video, Quran revealed the difficulties they’ve faced. “I don’t know how to feel, for the last two weeks I’ve been going through hell. Like, literal hell. All I want is a f—ing family and a healthy baby,” he said. The situation escalated on Father’s Day with a distressing message from the surrogate at six in the morning, saying, ‘I don’t wanna do this anymore.’ Quran described his struggle: “I’m stressed, I’m tired. Life has been whopping my a–. I’ve been there for this surrogate for the whole nine yards and I’m battling things that I can’t even battle myself alone.” He also mentioned that the surrogate’s mother accused them of pursuing the surrogacy for ‘likes and views.’

In a subsequent update, the couple revealed that the surrogate had decided to keep the baby, leaving them in a state of uncertainty about the gender reveal and their plans moving forward. Despite these setbacks, Quran remains hopeful, saying, “It’s in God’s hands if he wants to deliver us a healthy baby then it’ll come healthy.” The couple’s experience highlights the complex and varied nature of surrogacy in the U.S., where, according to the American Surrogacy website, there are no federal laws, and regulations vary by state.
