Gruesome footage captures man’s kneecaps ‘shooting up’ his thighs as tendons snap during Strongman contest

Shocking footage captures the moment a man’s kneecaps “shoot up” his thighs following a devastating incident in which his tendons snapped.

In early September, Dan Jones participated in a Strongman competition in Southport, UK, and performed impressively to reach the final round.

The final task required carrying an 80kg weight over 20 meters to the finish line. However, Dan experienced a severe injury just seconds before completing the challenge.

Video footage shows Dan collapsing to the ground, and the severity of his injuries became clear afterward.

Medical professionals, after rushing him to the hospital, found that Dan had ruptured both patellar tendons, causing his kneecaps to move up into his quadriceps.

Dan underwent a five-hour surgery to have his tendons reattached after receiving painkillers.

Without the operation, Dan would have faced significant challenges, as the patellar tendon connects the thigh muscle to the shin bone, crucial for movements like walking and climbing stairs.

It is still unclear if Dan will be able to participate in such competitions again, though his recovery is reportedly progressing well.

Recalling the events of September 1, Dan said: “I was going into the last event in second place.”

“If I had won this event, there was a chance I could have won my category and if I had come second, I would have come second overall out of 16 people.”

“The guy that I was racing against was in first place at the time so I was having to beat him, which is why I was going as fast as I could.”

He continued: “It was a freak accident, we’re still not 100 percent sure how it happened.”

“After slowing down the video with doctors and surgeons, it looks like my right knee patellar tendon snaps out of nowhere, which causes my leg to fold underneath me.”

“I felt like I was on fire, my kneecaps were in my quads because my tendons ruptured.”

Dan had an internal brace fitted to both legs during the operation to aid his recovery and is currently attending daily physio sessions.

“The surgeon has said it could be the end of all the Strongman competitions but it’s a case by case basis,” the Englishman added.

“He said it would be very rare that I’d be able to compete at the level I was again, but we don’t know until I start healing.”

Dan aims to be discharged from the hospital by his birthday on Monday, September 30.
