Scarlett Johansson reveals ‘bizarre’ orgasm scene that caused Joaquin Phoenix to ‘leave the studio’

Scarlett Johansson discussed a highly uncomfortable moment filled with simulated orgasms that she and Joaquin Phoenix experienced while filming a movie.

Before you jump to conclusions, this wasn’t some explicit Scarlett Johansson film that went under the radar.

No, I confirmed there isn’t one (as far as public knowledge goes). The Hollywood star actually referred to a scene she and Joaquin Phoenix recorded for Spike Jonze’s Her.

For those unfamiliar with this brilliant 2013 sci-fi romantic comedy, it centers on Phoenix’s character, Theodore, who falls in love with a computer program named Samantha, voiced by Johansson.

The twist is that Johansson isn’t physically present in the movie; her voice is used throughout, communicating with Phoenix’s character only through audio.

During an appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast in 2022, hosted by Dax Shepard and Monica Padman, the award-winning actor revealed details about a rather peculiar sex scene in Her.

The film includes an intense phone sex scene.

However, filming this particular segment turned out to be more awkward than one might think, according to Johansson.

She noted that Phoenix had already filmed his portion of the scene. Since the film only used Johansson’s voice, he had to join her in a recording studio to complete hers.

She said: “Joaquin comes in, we try to get through one take, and he was, like, losing it.

“He was like, angry … He had already done [the scene], he had done it in person, and now he was with me, in this weird theater, I’m in this box and [Joaquin] is staring at me, the lights are low, and like, Spike is there. It was so bizarre.

“Joaquin was so upset about it, he left the studio. He needed a break.”

Johansson completely understood her co-star’s discomfort and mentioned that thinking about it now induces ‘panic’ for her.

She continued: “You don’t want to hear your voice, ever.

“You definitely don’t want to hear what you sound like having an orgasm. You definitely don’t want to hear what you sound like having a fake orgasm – ew. It’s so gross.”

So if you decide to watch Her, you can anticipate this scene, knowing how awkward it was for both actors.

If that doesn’t entice you, the film is highly rated, boasting an 8/10 score on IMDb and a 95 percent Tomatometer score.
