Son of accused in Donald Trump assassination attempt speaks out about his ‘caring father’

The FBI has identified the person suspected in a second assassination attempt on Donald Trump, and the suspect’s son has spoken out.

On Sunday, September 15, authorities arrested a man for allegedly attempting to assassinate former president Donald Trump.

Multiple news outlets, along with the FBI, have identified the suspect as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh.

Routh’s son has now made a public statement.

Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung disclosed that ‘gunshots’ were fired near Trump around 2:00 pm while he was playing golf at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook that they had closed a major road and ‘stopped a vehicle and taken a suspect into custody believed to be connected’ to the supposed assassination plot.

In a fundraising email, the 45th President of the US stated he was ‘safe and well.’ Law enforcement confirmed that they had detained a person believed to be targeting Trump.

During a search of the area, officials found ‘an AK-47 rifle with a scope, two backpacks […] and a GoPro,’ according to Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw.

The FBI has identified the suspect as Ryan Wesley Routh, and Routh’s son has come forward to defend his father.

Oran Routh told CNN that his father isn’t known to ‘do anything crazy’ or ‘violent.’

He stated, “Ryan is my father, and I don’t have any comment beyond a character profile of him as a loving and caring father, and honest, hardworking man.

“I don’t know what’s happened in Florida, and I hope things have just been blown out of proportion, because from the little I’ve heard, it doesn’t sound like the man I know to do anything crazy, much less violent.

“He’s a good father, and a great man, and I hope you can portray him in an honest light.”

Social media posts linked to Ryan Routh reveal his support for Ukraine, including traveling to the country to support it after Russia’s invasion.

During a telephone interview with The Guardian, Oran Routh mentioned that his father went to Ukraine and ‘saw people f**king fighting and dying.’

“He … tried to make sure s**t was cool, and s**t was not cool. Meanwhile, this guy’s [Trump’s] sitting behind his f*cking desk, not doing a goddamn thing.”

As of this morning, no charges have been filed, but the FBI’s investigation into the second assassination attempt has gone global.
