1000-Lb Sisters Star Amy Slaton Shows Off Dramatic Weight Loss During Unexpected Career Move

Amy Slaton, 38, has unveiled an AI-generated music project on Instagram ahead of her TLC show’s return.

The Kentucky native shared a clip from a music video for her track “Pounds Hollow” on August 26, showing herself in a bralette top with the text “but i did tho…” Superimposed on screen. The song and video mark an unexpected career pivot for the reality star, who has spent years documenting her weight loss journey alongside sister Tammy Slaton on “1000-Lb. Sisters.”

In her Instagram caption, Amy wrote: “Y’all are getting a little sneak peek, but this is only part of the journey! From an idea in my head, to the music, filming, editing, and finally watching everything come to life – this one means a whole lot to me.”

She continued: “Y’all are gonna get to see the process, the work, the laughs, the nerves, and everything that went into making this dream a reality.”

Amy described the experience as “stepping outside my comfort zone” and “something I’ll never forget,” adding: “This isn’t just about dropping a music video. It’s about watching something that started as an idea grow into something REAL.”

The project has already drawn skepticism from within her own family. A preview of the upcoming season shows her brother pushing back on the AI-assisted creation, telling her: “If you use AI to do anything, you didn’t do it.”

Amy’s weight loss has been central to her storyline since she underwent bariatric surgery in 2019. She previously weighed more than 400 pounds, and by 2023 reports said she had dropped to 230 pounds following the procedure — a loss of roughly 200 pounds. The upcoming ninth season, premiering September 1, will continue following her transformation.

Meanwhile, Tammy, 39, has undergone her own dramatic change. After bariatric surgery in July 2022, she dropped from over 700 pounds to roughly 200 pounds, losing approximately 500 pounds total. She has since had skin removal surgery and landed her first job as a volunteer at Vanderburgh Humane Society.

In the viral moment that launched the sisters to fame, TLC’s “1000-Lb. Sisters” debuted in 2020 and followed the Slatons through weight loss treatments, surgeries, and daily life in Kentucky. The show chronicled their struggles with food addiction, health crises, and family dynamics as they pursued bariatric surgery. Tammy spent 14 months in a weight loss rehab facility before her procedure, while Amy underwent surgery first and started a family with ex-husband Michael Halterman, with whom she shares sons Gage, 4, and Glenn, 3. Amy married Brian Lovvorn in October 2025 after a Halloween ceremony she called “a dream finally coming true.”

Tammy has spoken openly about the roots of their weight struggles. “We grew up with fast food mostly. There was five kids, so our mum worked three jobs,” she said on the show. “We didn’t really get much love and affection growing up. It was actually quite the opposite. We got told we were stupid, we were lazy.”

She credited her success to bariatric surgery combined with rehabilitation for food addiction, though she has faced new challenges including excess skin removal procedures that took eight hours. “The only problem is this excess skin is out of control,” she said previously.

Season 9 of “1000-Lb. Sisters” premieres September 1 on TLC.
