101-Year-Old Man Survives Nepalese Quake After Being Buried Alive For Seven Days

In the latest piece of astonishing news to emerge from Nepal, 101-year-old Funchu Tamang was pulled out from the rubble of his home one week after the deadly earthquake. It was the day after the government ruled out finding any more survivors.

Even more astounding is that Tamang survived with only minor injuries to his ankle and hand.

Several others were also found alive, including a 15-year-old boy who was rescued from beneath piles of concrete from a collapsed seven-story building.

Crowds cheered as the teenager, identified by police as Pemba Tamang, was pulled dazed and dusty, and carried away on a stretcher.

Three women were also rescued from rubble in Sindupalchowk, one of the districts worst hit by the quake.

Rescue teams from more than 20 countries continue to sift through the wreckage, as casualties mount. The death toll left by last weekend’s devastating earthquake now stands at over 7,000.

Amid all the tragedy, the hard work and perseverance displayed by the rescue teams inspires and gives hope. Their resolve is saving lives — let’s hope the glimmers of good news continue to shine through.
