Kai Trump, 18, gave a tour of her new off-campus apartment in a YouTube video posted Saturday as her freshman year at the University of Miami gets underway.
The daughter of Donald Trump Jr., 47, and Vanessa Trump addressed viewers directly, explaining she decided to “show it off” since “so many [people] were, like, dying to see” the space. She called her residence “pretty cool,” adding, “I’m very, very lucky to have this obviously as a freshman. I love it. It’s very nice coming home to no one.”
Her walkthrough began in the kitchen, which she labeled her “favorite part” because she “eat[s] a lot.” From there she moved through the living room, highlighting a framed black-and-white photograph of gondolas in Aspen, Colorado, noting that she “love[s] skiing,” plus a New York City skyline shot. She also showed a white couch, a television, and what she called “the coolest part” — a fireplace.
The rest of the tour covered a guest bathroom, a homework office, and a bedroom with a walk-in closet and attached bathroom. More framed photographs dotted the walls, including one of a car and another showing a golf cart with President Donald Trump, her grandfather.
Kai, who committed to the University of Miami in August 2024 to play golf, has been candid about the challenges of her first weeks away from home. She admitted in the Saturday upload that she has already returned to Jupiter, Florida, “a few times already” because her golf equipment, trainers, and coaches remain there. “If I have an off day, I try and go home,” she said. “It’s been great.”
She also addressed the difficulty of balancing athletics with campus life. “College life is fun,” she said. “When you’re a student-athlete, that makes it hard. … I haven’t really explored Miami yet because I’m so busy with the golf, but I’m here for golf, I’m not here to party in Miami, so I guess that’s OK.”
Her health has complicated the transition further. “I ended up getting strep throat last week. On top of strep I had a sinus infection,” she shared. “Last night I think I had food poisoning because I ate sushi and then I threw up. Not fun.” She summarized that she has been “going through it.”
The upbeat apartment tour stood in contrast to her emotional state just days earlier. In an August 29 YouTube vlog documenting her move to Miami, Kai broke down on camera while preparing to leave her family behind. “I’m not a very emotional person at all, so this is like really weird for me to cry,” she said in that video. “I think knowing that I have to say goodbye to everyone tonight really, really sucks.”
Despite the tears and the physical ailments, her Saturday update struck a note of adjustment. The apartment itself — with its fireplace, multiple bathrooms, and space for both studying and displaying personal memorabilia — appears to offer some compensation for the upheaval of leaving home for the first time.
The framed photographs she chose to display suggest deliberate connections to her established life: the skiing image from Aspen, the New York skyline from her hometown, and the golf cart picture with her grandfather all anchor her new space to familiar people and places. Even her comment about coming home “to no one” carried a hint of satisfaction rather than loneliness.
Kai’s social media presence has grown alongside her public profile as a member of the extended Trump family. She spoke at the Republican National Convention in July 2024, introducing her grandfather before his acceptance speech, and has since built a YouTube following that now receives regular updates on her college transition.
Her candidness about both the perks and the difficulties of her situation — the desirable apartment, the homesickness, the strep throat, the food poisoning, the golf schedule keeping her from Miami’s social scene — has become a hallmark of her online persona. She presents herself neither as fully struggling nor as effortlessly settling in, but as a freshman working through a complicated first month.
The University of Miami’s fall semester began in late August, placing Kai roughly two weeks into her college career at the time of her apartment tour.
