Toucan Gets 3D-Printed Beak After Being Beaten By Group Of Kids

Meet Grecia, a beautiful toucan bird from Costa Rica.

Last year, Grecia was brutally attacked by a group of teenagers who left the poor bird with a smashed upper bill.

Because of this, Grecia wasn’t able to eat properly and would have eventually died from starvation.

Lucky for this bird, some kind farmers brought it to ZooAve animal shelter in La Garita, Alajuela.

Animal lovers raised over $7,000 dollars to help save Grecia, with four local companies joining forces to make a 3D-printed beak.

A year and a half later, Grecia has fully recovered and couldn’t be happier.

Grecia has become a symbol for an Animal Welfare Bill in Costa Rica, where animal mistreatment is still legal.

Lovely Grecia is staying at the local zoo. Experts believe the bird wouldn’t be able to survive in the wild since the new beak needs regular check-ups.

As soon as Grecia’s gender is determined, the bird will also get a partner.

“Like every living creature, Grecia needs company, that’s a priority to improve quality of life and we hope that he, or she, can even be able to raise a family,” ZooAve manager Magaly Quesada shared.

Good luck, Grecia!
