With the rise of organic and healthier foods, it’s easy to make your own choices about what you put into your body. Milk for instance – there are many more options than just your plain old cow’s milk. Almond milk, soy milk and coconut milk are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes down to decision making. This recipe for Homemade Almond Milk helps you out if you’re on the fence about trying out other types.
Ingredients:
1 cup raw almonds
water for soaking nuts
2 dates (optional)
3 cups water
Directions:
Place the almonds in a bowl and cover with about an inch of water. Soak the almonds overnight or for at least 10 hours (the longer you soak the almonds, the creamier the milk will be).
Drain and rinse the almonds. Blend the 3 cups of water, almonds and dates for 2 minutes on the highest speed until almost smooth (or until the nuts are completely broken down).
Strain the mixture through several layers of cheesecloth or a nut milk bag.
You can refrigerate the almond milk. Stays fresh for about 3 days.
