Award-winning DJ Erick Morillo known for his hit 90s song I Like To Move It has been found dead in Miami Beach, reports said.
The Colombian-American music producer was 49 years old. He was scheduled to appear in court on Friday on sexual battery charges.
Miami police officers reported receiving a 911 call at 10.42 am and detectives quickly headed to the scene. Details on Morillo’s death have yet to be disclosed.
The DJ was best known for producing the electro-dance track I Like To Move It, which he released in 1993 under the pseudonym Reel 2 Real.
Morillo produced music under a number of aliases including Ministers de la Funk, The Dronez, RAW, Smooth Touch, RBM, Deep Soul, Club Ultimate and Li’l Mo Ying Yang.
As a favorite in the private club scene, Morillo also performed at venues in Las Vegas and music festivals including Creamfields.
On August 6, Morillo turned himself to the authorities after he was accused of sexual battery by a fellow DJ.
Reports said Morillo and the accuser were working at a private party on Star Island in December 2019, before she went home with Morillo and another woman.
The accuser told detectives that Morillo “made several advances towards her, some sexual in nature, but she refused all of his attempts.”
She recalled “waking up nude on the bed, with Morillo standing on the side of the bed also nude.”
Morillo denied the allegations.
