Conservative commentators are up in arms about Lizzo playing James Madison’s flute. Still, the people representing the 4th president’s home couldn’t be happier, pushing her to pay a house call as soon as possible.
According to a representative for James Madison’s Montpelier estate, Lizzo now has an open invitation to join a private tour of Madison’s well-preserved mansion after making history with the crystal instrument originally held by the president.
They’re even hoping she’ll put on a show during her stay, whether it’s a planned concert or a spontaneous jam session.
They’re hoping to work something out with the Library of Congress to bring the crystal flute, which dates back to 1813, to Lizzo’s act. According to the estate, there is no proof that JM ever played the flute, therefore Lizzo might have been the first person to play Madison’s flute at Madison’s house. Iconic.
It’s uncertain whether Lizzo will take the job because she’s presently on tour, but it’s worth noting that nearly 100 slaves worked at Montpelier when Madison resided there.
As previously reported, Lizzo made history on Tuesday by playing some notes on the 200-year-old instrument… and we’re told Montpelier thinks no one else is more appropriate, dubbing it “a flute for royalty,” with the singer fitting the bill.
Some individuals were offended (what else is new?) because they believed she disrespected American history by using such a precious artifact in her performance.
Those closest to Madison are fine with it.
