Meghan and Harry were spotted for the first time since their explosive Netflix teaser, arriving in New York by private aircraft to collect an award for their “heroic” battle against “structural racism” in the Royal Family.
The duchess smiled as she and Harry climbed into a waiting SUV before entering New York, with the 41-year-old wearing an all-black ensemble and huge sunglasses, and her 38-year-old husband wearing a buttoned-down white shirt and black trousers.
The Sussexes, who were seen yesterday, are expected to receive a human rights award at tonight’s The Ripple of Hope gala, for which tickets cost up to $1 million (£847,000). Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton have all previously won the award.
The Royal Family is bracing for further assaults from the duo when their ‘explosive’ Netflix series premieres on Thursday. Today, King Charles was seen on a stroll through Luton, where he met municipal officials in the town hall and visited a Sikh temple.
In a trailer for their documentary, which was published yesterday, Harry said the couple had been subjected to leaks and false tales that supported the Royal Family’s ‘hierarchy.’
Allies said there was a ‘war against Meghan to fit other people’s objectives,’ with one stating ‘it’s about hatred, it’s about racism.’
In show footage, the duke also took aim at royal staff, grinning and said, ‘It’s a dirty game.’
However, royal sources said that the suggestion that the pair had been briefed against was ‘completely false,’ and that ‘extraordinary efforts’ had been made to support them.
According to one source, royal employees are instead ‘bending over themselves to deal with them.’
They claimed that it was ‘non-stop on their part’ in defending them from unfavorable reports, which began when rumors about the couple’s behavior toward workers surfaced.
Another claimed that the story comparing Meghan to Kate was ‘manufactured,’ with no difference in how the press treated them.
Royal experts have cautioned that the series, which focuses on the ‘early days’ of the Princess of Wales’ relationship with William, might be particularly upsetting for her.
According to Jack Royston, a top royal reporter, the trailer’s material suggests that the documentary will not just focus on contemporary events, but will also dive into the distant past, particularly the tumultuous early days of William and Kate’s courtship.
‘We’ve had Kate in both trailers.” The most current one has a strapline beneath that resembles a magazine cover headline.
‘On the front cover of that magazine was an accusation that the Queen was ashamed of her, and images of her intoxicated in public were published.
‘If they go back to the early days of Kate and William’s relationship, it might be extremely awkward.’
Royston also anticipated that Netflix would revive a 2018 incident in which Meghan allegedly made Kate weep by disparaging Princess Charlotte in front of her best friend’s kid during a bridesmaid fitting.
‘In the Oprah interview, that was portrayed as a significant turning moment where everything changed, and then in this current Netflix teaser, you have Harry stating, “this was the turning point” – they don’t mention what he’s talking about, but you kind of already know,’ he said.
