Every Person’s Worst Nightmare: Being Taken To The Morgue ALIVE

A common worst nightmare scenario is being mistakenly taken for dead and buried alive. Numerous books and films have depicted the scenario: Imagine scratching the walls of your coffin, screaming for help … only no one can hear you when you’re buried six feet down in the cold earth.

It’s enough to send shivers down anyone’s spine. But this is not only the stuff of fiction. For Janina Kolkiewicz, this scenario became a reality.

Meet Janina Kolkiewicz.

Meet Janina Kolkiewicz.

Janina is 91 years old. She was found lying on the floor of her home in Ostrow Lubielski, Poland. Her family desperately tried to find a pulse, but there were no signs of life. The family doctor conducted a professional examination and pronounced her dead.

The morgue.

The Morgue.

Her body was taken to a local morgue and her family began making preparations for the funeral. Grandma was gone.

But hold on … Something stirred in the cold, dark, damp of the morgue.

Awake.

11 hours later, morgue staff heard a noise coming from the room where the bodies were kept. What they found was incredible: Janina had arisen from the dead — she was moving.

In fact, she had never died.

Reunion.

The Kolkiewicz family must have been relieved when they received a slightly embarrassed if happy man from the morgue informing them that grandma was actually very much alive. Janina was frozen cold from her stay at the morgue, but she was soon warmed up with hot soup and pancakes.

We’re just happy it all turned out well for this adorable little grandma.
