Famed chef Gordon Ramsay has shared a harrowing account of a recent biking accident, stating he feels “lucky to be here” after the incident left him with severe injuries.
The culinary star took to his social media on Saturday, June 15, to post a video from Connecticut where the accident occurred. Ramsay appeared visibly shaken as he recounted the frightening experience.
“Hey guys, it’s Gordon. I’d like to share a very important message with you all,” he said in the video. “You know how much I love cycling and triathlons and Ironman (races) etc and this week, unfortunately, I had a really bad accident and it really shook me and honestly I’m lucky to be here.
“Those incredible trauma surgeons, doctors, nurses in the hospitals looked after me this week, they were amazing but honestly, you’ve got to wear helmets.”
Ramsay stressed the importance of safety gear, emphasizing, “I don’t care how short the journey is. I don’t care… these helmets cost money, but they’re crucial, even with a kid’s short journey, they’ve got to wear a helmet now.
“I’m lucky to be standing here. I’m in pain. It’s been a brutal week. And I’m sort of getting through it.”
In a particularly shocking moment, Ramsay lifted his shirt in the video, revealing a massive dark purple bruise covering his torso.
Despite the grim appearance of his injuries, the 57-year-old chef revealed in the video’s caption that he fortunately did not break any bones.
“I’m doing OK and did not break any bones or suffer any major injuries but I am a bit bruised up looking like a purple potato,” he shared.
Ramsay also mentioned he received treatment at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, Connecticut, and credited his helmet with saving his life.
Following the post, fans and followers quickly filled the comments section with messages of support and relief at his survival.
“A ‘bit’ bruised up. Be safe man, glad you’re okay and I hope you feel better soon!” one user commented.
Another expressed their shock: “The way my heart sank when you lifted your shirt!! The world needs you chef!! Beyond happy to hear you are going to be okay, and thank God for that helmet! Happy Father’s Day and speedy recovery goat!!”
A third supporter remarked, “So glad you’re okay chef! Wearing a helmet is a must!!”
