A London-based woman, Vera Dijkmans, embarked on an unconventional quest for love by inviting men to apply to be her boyfriend via TikTok. Despite the overwhelming response of 5,000 applications, she remains single, finding only three candidates who met her stringent requirements.
Vera, who boasts a following of over seven million on social media, shared her unique dating experiment on her platform. “I asked men to fill in an application to be my boyfriend and received 5,000 replies – but only three fit my strict criteria,” she revealed.
Despite the dates she went on with the three potential suitors, Vera confirmed, “I went on a date with them – but I’m currently still single.”
She added, “Despite this disappointing result, I still consider the experiment a success since I was able to be upfront about what I want and see which men fit that criteria.”
The application process was not without its odd moments. Vera recounted some of the bizarre offers she received. “One man offered to send me a sample of his blood and asked for mine in return – which I ignored,” she said. She also mentioned an unexpected message from a celebrity, “I also had a famous person slide into my DMs; I can’t say who it is but I definitely didn’t expect it!”
Interestingly, she noted a peculiar trend among the applicants: “Most of the applicants were from Texas and a lot of them had the Aquarius star sign.”
The application included a range of questions designed to filter out unsuitable candidates, aligning them with Vera’s expectations.
After reflecting on the experience, Vera has decided to pause her search for the time being. “I wouldn’t do another application process online,” she explained. “If I do it again, I will probably make it a real-life event.”
For now, she’s content to wait for the right match. “At the moment, I’ve put the boyfriend search on hold but I’m keeping my options open. I’m just very picky and I need a guy to be almost perfect. I don’t think I should have to compromise on my needs – I’d rather be single until I find the man I’m meant to be with,” Vera concluded.
