Jennifer Lawrence opens up about hiring security after giving birth due to ‘intrusive thoughts’

Jennifer Lawrence has recently shared insights into why she decided to boost her security measures after welcoming her first child. In 2022, during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Lawrence confirmed that she had become a mother. DeGeneres, who now lives next door to Lawrence, charmingly noted, “Now I live next door to you, and I’m looking at you living in my house with a brand new baby. By the way, I do hear you sometimes talking to him, and it’s really cute.”

Not long after this interview, Lawrence and her son, whom she named Cy, were seen during a rare public outing in Los Angeles. An onlooker told Page Six that Lawrence appeared to be engaged in a “very normal errand run” as she pushed her baby’s pram. The actor has been very private about her life as a mother, a stance she shares with her husband, Cooke Maroney, as they both prefer to keep their son’s identity shielded from the public eye.

In 2023, Lawrence had a candid discussion with Kylie Jenner for Interview magazine, where she opened up about her postpartum experience and the subsequent increase in her security detail. “I didn’t have that much security before I had a kid but, once I had one, with my intrusive thoughts and anxiety, I wanted us to have security around all the time,” Lawrence confessed.

Initially, the “No Hard Feelings” actor wanted her security personnel to remain unnoticed by her son. However, her perspective shifted over time. “Once they start working for you, it’s like, ‘Well, wait. This is a person in our life. He’s helping us’,” she reflected. This realization led her to a more inclusive approach. “That’s not really a good lesson to ignore the person that’s helping us. It’s probably better to say, ‘Say good morning to Sean. Hi. How are you?’ We’ve incorporated them more in our lives, which surprised me. That wasn’t how I planned it,” Lawrence admitted.

Despite her status as a globally recognized actress, Lawrence maintains a notably private personal life. In a conversation with Vanity Fair in 2021, during her pregnancy, she expressed her protective instincts toward her unborn child. “If I was at a dinner party, and somebody was like, ‘Oh, my God, you’re expecting a baby,’ I wouldn’t be like, ‘God, I can’t talk about that. Get away from me, you psycho!’ But every instinct in my body wants to protect their privacy for the rest of their lives, as much as I can,” she explained. This protective nature extends to her professional life, as she prefers to keep her child out of the public spotlight.

At 33 years old, Jennifer Lawrence continues to navigate the complexities of motherhood, fame, and privacy, making thoughtful decisions about how to best protect and integrate her family’s well-being into her daily life.
