Eric Roberts spilled the tea on the subtle pressures of Hollywood families in a candid interview where he discussed the dynamics of being related to two major stars: his sister Julia Roberts and his daughter Emma Roberts.
During a revealing chat on the podcast Still Here Hollywood, Eric was probed about his relationship with his sister, Julia. Once a ubiquitous presence in the limelight, Julia has since opted for a quieter life, something underscored by Eric during his podcast appearance.
Even though the interviewer tried to delve into the topic of Julia Roberts, Eric carefully navigated around it, choosing his words with caution. He stated, “You’ll have to ask her. I love my sister, but I can’t talk about her. She don’t want to talk about it.”
The intrigue around Julia seemed to heighten following buzz that Eric’s forthcoming memoir, titled Runaway Train: or, The Story of My Life So Far, which is expected to hit the shelves in September, had stirred some family tensions.
Similarly, Eric’s daughter, Emma Roberts, also expressed her desire for Eric to maintain a certain level of discretion in public conversations about her.
Opening up about the delicate situation, Eric confessed, “She told me not to talk about her,” admitting, “I stumbled and do.” He further shared, “I’m not supposed to talk about either of them. But I do.”
Despite the restrictions, Eric passionately discussed his admiration for his daughter’s professional achievements. He expressed, “I’m in love with my daughter’s work these days. I can’t believe how great she’s become. I’m so proud of her I can’t see straight.”
He elaborated, “Since her performance in Maybe I Do until right now, she overwhelms me with pride and just, ‘Oh my God, here she goes again.'” He added, “And I’m just so happy to be her dad because she’s kicking ass. And I’m so proud.”
Addressing the ongoing discussion about “nepo babies” in Hollywood, Eric stated that he had “contributed absolutely nothing” to Emma’s success in the industry.
Emma has been open about the unique challenges of her lineage, previously noting that her familial connections have not always worked in her favor. She explained, “People have opinions and sometimes maybe they’re not good opinions of people in your family. I’ve never gotten a job because of it, I know I definitely have lost a couple of jobs because of it.”
