Imagine being so protective of your phone’s password that you’d rather swim away in the ocean than share it with your partner. Well, that’s exactly what happened in a wild incident involving a Florida man named AJ and his girlfriend while they were chilling on a boat.
While they were soaking up the sun, their day took a dramatic turn when officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC) showed up beside them. The officers were initially on the hunt for another boat but ended up spotting some code violations on AJ’s boat instead.
The situation escalated quickly as the officers began asking some questions. AJ defensively asked if the officers were just trying to catch people breaking laws on the water, to which they replied that they were simply doing their job addressing violations.
“That’s what we do,” one of the officers stated firmly.
Lacking IDs and growing increasingly agitated, AJ faced more pressure from the officers who wondered aloud if he had a warrant out for his arrest.
“Usually, when people start acting like that, it is because they’ve got a warrant,” remarked one of the officers, adding tension to the scene.
Feeling cornered, AJ curiously inquired about the consequences of jumping into the water and swimming away. An officer coolly responded that he would follow him, emphasizing, “I’m telling you, you’re not free to leave.”
Amidst this chaos, AJ’s girlfriend attempted to diffuse the situation and asked for his phone to call his boss for help. When she asked for the password, AJ clammed up and refused to share it.
His girlfriend’s persistence only made him more stubborn. As the officers continued their questioning and his girlfriend pressed him for the password, AJ saw no other way out but to leap into the ocean.
Claiming he was ‘not resisting,’ he began his swim to shore, leaving everyone in shock.
His girlfriend was clearly upset by his drastic decision, exclaiming, “We are done after this, I’m telling you. I’m leaving!”
Unfortunately for AJ, his aquatic escape didn’t end well. The officers took a leisurely approach, simply following him back to shore where they eventually handcuffed him.
After the bodycam footage hit YouTube, the internet had a field day analyzing AJ’s over-the-top reaction.
“Dude would rather swim to land than give his girl his passcode,” chuckled one viewer.
Another commented, “Bro wasn’t worried about jail he was worried about that phone being unlocked.”
