Rod Stewart reflects on his ‘numbered days’ while discussing views on mortality

As he approaches his 80th birthday, Sir Rod Stewart has been candid about his future and what he envisions for ‘these last few years’.

The iconic rock star, renowned for being one of the best-selling music artists ever, is on the verge of turning 79. Despite his age, he continues to grace the stage and perform, even taking to social media to assert that he’ll ‘never retire’.

Nevertheless, Stewart is contemplating the years ahead as he nears his eightieth year, pondering what more he seeks from life. And for those worried fans, by ‘last few years,’ he doesn’t mean just a couple of years.

In a discussion with The Sun, Stewart conceded that he’s ‘not like [he] was in the ’70s and ’80s’ and is now ‘more aware of [his] health than before’.

He elaborated: “I can’t stay up all night, get drunk and go mad and still have a voice just like that. Nowadays I have to protect my voice before and after every show.

“The older you get, the more you have to do that. Water has a hell of a lot to do with it.”

But does that imply he only consumes water? Certainly not.

Stewart mentioned he still goes ‘mad after every show’.

“You’re talking to Rod Stewart here, mate. […] There are 13 of us, six women, really great musicians and I make them drink. We absolutely love it,” he added.

The musician also confessed that he has a ‘quick Bacardi’ before shows, which he convinces himself is ‘good for [his] voice’.

Despite joking about maintaining his rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle, Stewart acknowledged he’s ‘aware [his] days are numbered,’ but he emphasized he has ‘got no fear’.

He continued: “We have all got to pass on at some point, so we are all in the same basket.

“I am going to be enjoying myself for these last few years as much as I can. I say few – probably another 15. I can do that easy mate, easy.”

Looking forward, Stewart has ‘ambitions like touring with Jools,’ but ultimately he feels he ‘would feel greedy if [he] asked for anything more’.

Stewart concluded: “I have had a good time and a good life and I’ve enjoyed myself, so I wouldn’t ask for anything more.

“Probably good health and good health for my children and happiness… and Celtic [football club] doing well.

“We beat Man City the other day in a friendly. I am truly fanatical about Celtic still.”
