A waitress employed at a Hooters restaurant has discussed whether her position truly offers financial benefits.
In a TikTok video that has garnered around 2.8 million views, Hooters waitress Maia Marie disclosed some drawbacks of her job.
This isn’t Maia’s first viral post; she previously shared a video in which she revealed earning approximately $450 in tips in merely half a day’s work.
Although the financial rewards at the job might be appealing, Maia utilized social media to shed light on some of the more challenging aspects of her role.
In her video, she highlighted three specific challenges that make her job difficult on a daily basis.
Hooters is notable for hiring young, attractive women as waitstaff, with the chain’s name serving as a double entendre.
Maia disclosed how this can lead to customers not always behaving appropriately during her shifts.
She stated: “I always knew men were weird but when I started working at Hooters it unlocked a whole another level.”
Maia added: “I’m not saying all men are bad, mine isn’t I love him. There are men that will really like make you uncomfortable and not even realize what they’re doing.”
The second challenge she frequently encounters is maintaining a customer service persona in a highly public-facing role.
She elaborated: “You have to be ready to put that fake smile on if you’re having a bad day push it out the window and that can be a lot sometimes.”
Anyone who has sustained their customer service persona through the end of a demanding double shift can relate to this.
Lastly, unfortunately, competition among servers can be an issue.
Maia mentioned: “There are girls that are going to be competitive there are girls that are gonna want to skip you in the rotation. Some girls are going to want to take the tip that was left for you off your table.”
However, she quickly noted that these individuals are in the minority, stating: “Needless to say nine times out of ten the girls that you work with are there for the same reason you are and are going to be really cool.”
In the spirit of fairness, Maia also pointed out one of the perks of her job—forming close friendships and a strong sense of community.
She commented: “I have met some of the best girls working at Hooters. My manager is one of my best friends now.”
