Woman Denied Job After Asking ‘Simple’ Question in Interview

A woman shared her experience of being turned down for a job after posing what she considered a ‘basic’ question at the conclusion of her interview.

Despite feeling confident that the interview had gone ‘really well’, she was taken aback when the recruiter informed her that she did not secure the position.

After investing weeks or even months in the job application process and attending several interviews, facing rejection can be quite disheartening.

Typically, candidates seek feedback, and many respectable employers provide candid reasons for their hiring decisions.

In this case, the woman was shocked to discover the actual reason she was not offered the job.

When she inquired why she was rejected, the recruiter replied: “They said they absolutely loved meeting you, but your questions were too financially orientated.”

“… Apparently you asked about money a lot, is that true?”

The candidate was taken aback by the reasoning and responded: “You are joking, is this for real?

“I asked a couple of questions at the end as I wanted to clarify something around what was included in the benefits package.

“But for the rest of the interview, all of my questions were about the role itself.”

The recruiter further mentioned that the employer preferred a candidate ‘more interested in the role rather than all about the money’.

“That is honestly crazy,” she responded.

This sentiment was echoed by entrepreneur Ben Askins, who shared the message exchange on TikTok.

Askins criticized the employer’s decision, stating: “There’s nothing to defend, it’s a job interview, of course, people are going to be interested in the price and the benefits and the package that comes with it.

“That’s the sole reason why they’re in that room. I know people like to think they want the love of the game and they want to show keenness and all that… of course that helps but ultimately the reason people go to work is to get money to support themselves.

“This idea that you can’t ask basic questions in an interview is so frustrating and the fact they’ve actually denied it based on that is absolutely ludicrous.

“… It is a job, not a hobby, you complete and utter idiots.”

He also criticized the absurd reaction of another boss to an employee’s query about money, and recounted a harsh message another woman received from her employer on her wedding day.
