Samuel L Jackson appears to have mastered the art of work-life balance, with his contracts ensuring he has time to play golf at least twice a week.
The seasoned actor has graced the screen for so many years that it’s hard to imagine cinema without his distinctively sharp and often grumpy persona.
At 75, Jackson has cemented his status as a Hollywood legend, and his name alone can still draw audiences to the theaters.
With more than 200 film and TV credits to his name, it’s clear he puts in a lot of hard work. However, Jackson also knows how to enjoy his downtime.
In a 2017 interview with The New York Times, Jackson discussed his on-set behavior and how he manages to find time for his hobbies despite a busy schedule.
Interestingly, he revealed a common thread across all his projects.
Jackson confessed that he can “be a hard taskmaster for some directors” and prefers to take charge on set.
Describing his aversion to extra takes, he admitted: “I’m at that point where I can say: ‘Uh, you know, that’s not going to be in the movie, right? We already got it, we got it when we did this, that and that. I’m not going to do that.”
To ensure he has time for leisure activities, Jackson includes a clause in his film contracts that allows him to go golfing twice a week.
A self-proclaimed golf enthusiast, Jackson admitted to planning his golf outfits the night before a game.
He has previously played with notable figures such as Anthony Anderson, Charles Barkley, and former presidents Bill Clinton and Donald J. Trump.
In an interview with CNN, Jackson elaborated on this unique contract addition: “Generally, they either move me onto a golf course so I can play or join a club so I can play, and they have to let me play at least twice a week.”
“I like golf because it’s a perfect game for an only child like me.
“In this game, you get responsibility for everything you do bad, and you get all the credit for everything you do well.”
