Sam Asghari, Britney Spears’ Ex-Husband, Breaks Silence on Their Divorce

Sam Asghari, Britney Spears’ ex-husband, has recently opened up about their unexpected divorce from last year.

The couple got married in 2022 after being together for six years, but their marriage ended just 14 months later.

Asghari confirmed the divorce on Instagram, stating, “After six years of love and commitment to each other,” he and Spears “have decided to end our journey together.”

He acknowledged that asking for privacy might be difficult, so he instead requested people to be “kind and thoughtful.”

Before the official announcement, media outlets like TMZ, ET Online, and PEOPLE reported that the couple had separated due to “irreconcilable differences.”

TMZ even suggested that tensions had been building for some time, culminating in a “nuclear argument.”

Asghari recently sat down with the Hollywood Reporter to talk about his relationship with Spears.

The 30-year-old mentioned that he chose not to read Spears’ memoir, The Woman in Me, because “I was there.” He has a valid point.

Discussing their divorce, Asghari said, “When something ends, of course, there’s going to be a moment where you are sad or upset, but just be happy that it ever even happened. Celebrate the past. That’s how I look at it.”

There has been speculation that Asghari may have signed an NDA after his split from Spears.

However, in this recent interview, he denied those claims, stating that an NDA wouldn’t have been necessary.

He explained, “If my life is private, it’s private. It’s just the values that I have.”

Earlier this year, Asghari shared similar thoughts in an interview with PEOPLE.

“I’ve always hated people leaving a certain relationship — and at some point they told each other they love each other and they sat at the same table and ate food [together] — so I never understood when people part ways [and] they talk badly about each other,” he said.

“That’s something I’m never going to do because I had nothing but an amazing experience and a great life, and that’s always going to be part of my life, a chapter of my life.”

Asghari revealed that he is now focusing on maintaining a “healthy lifestyle” and advancing his career.

“I used to think people that were 30 years old were so old when I was in high school. But for every person I talk to, the older they get, the more they get to enjoy life because with age comes wisdom and experiences,” he said.

“And I think experiences in life are beautiful, so that’s something that I’m just super excited to just be fulfilled with.”
