How to watch: Halloween releases October 1 on Netflix.
Netflix is kicking off spooky season by adding David Gordon Green’s 2018 Halloween to its roster.
The eleventh installment in the overall Halloween film franchise, Halloween sees Jamie Lee Curtis reprising her iconic role of Laurie Strode, and brings her back in an all-too-familiar fight against serial killer Michael Myers.
Hailed by critics and fans alike, Halloween is largely considered to be the best Halloween film since the original 1978 film of the same name. It’s the perfect watch to start its namesake holiday month right.

How to watch: Season 1 of Yellowjackets releases October 1 on Netflix.
Perhaps one of the most underrated shows on TV right now, Yellowjackets is a survival/supernatural thriller series set across two timelines. One timeline takes place in 1996 and follows a high school girl’s soccer team, the Yellowjackets, whose plane crashes while on the way to a national tournament, leaving them stranded in the Ontario wilderness for 19 months.
The other timeline is set in the present day and follows the girls’ lives as adults, teasing ever-so-bitingly how they actually managed to survive in the wilderness for 19 months when they were teenagers. It beckons questions on whether or not something far more sinister was involved.
The show is scary, devilishly good, and by far has one of the best first seasons of a show I’ve ever seen. While only Yellowjackets’ first season will be made available to stream on Netflix, the series actually has a second season out that you can stream on Paramount+ or Prime Video.
Starring: Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Ice Cube
Genre: Comedy/Action
How to watch: 22 Jump Street releases October 1 on Netflix.
Released in 2014, 22 Jump Street is a sequel to the iconic 21 Jump Street, starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill as police officers who go undercover at a college to bust a drug ring.
While 22 Jump Street may not admittedly be as good as its predecessor, it still packs on hilarious hijinks along with Tatum and Hill’s undeniable comedic chemistry that makes for a fun movie night at home.
Starring: Bill Skarsgård, James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader
Genre: Horror
How to watch: It Chapter Two releases October 1 on Netflix.
Based on Stephen King’s widely beloved novel of the same name, the It films follow the journey of a group of friends who swiftly discover that their once quaint town is actually home to a looming evil that may or may not enjoy disguising itself as a killer clown.
While the first It film released in 2017 sees the group dealing with Pennywise the Clown (Skarsgård) as children, It Chapter Two jumps forward a couple of decades later and sees them trying to put a stop to Pennywise once and for all as adults.
The film is spooky. It’s sometimes unironically funny. And it’s the perfect watch for Halloween month.
Starring: Nick and Vanessa Lachey
Genre: Reality
How to watch: Season 7 of Love is Blind releases October 2 on Netflix.
Hosted by Nick and Vanessa Lachey, Netflix reality show Love is Blind takes a group of singles and pairs them up in pods where they talk to each other for weeks on end without ever actually seeing each other in an effort to determine if love really is blind.
However, when their time at the pods comes to an end, the show’s newfound couples are allowed to see each other for the first time — and based on how they feel after finally getting a good look at each other — decide if they want to move forward and get married. It’s bonkers, bold, and absolutely brilliant.
This new season of Love is Blind is set in Washington D.C. and its first six episodes will premiere on Netflix on October 2. Episodes 7 to 9 will drop the next week on October 9, followed by episodes 10 and 11 on Oct. 16. The finale airs October 23.

How to watch: Unsolved Mysteries: Volume 5 releases October 2 on Netflix.
A reboot of the widely popular, decade-spanning docuseries, Unsolved Mysteries dedicates each episode to different stories that have left people stumped, whether it be paranormal phenomena or cold cases.
Picked up by Netflix in 2019, Unsolved Mysteries returned to the streaming site with its original creators, John Cosgrove and Terry Dunn Meurer, at the helm.
Starring: Kit Connor, Joe Locke, Olivia Colman, Stephen Fry
Genre: Romantic comedy/Drama
How to watch: Season 3 of Heartstopper releases October 3 on Netflix.
Based on Alice Oseman’s webcomic and graphic novel of the same name, Heartstopper is a coming-of-age series that follows the lives of a group of high schoolers as they navigate love, sexuality, and their futures.
The show primarily navigates the relationship between two classmates, Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) and Nick Nelson (Kit Connor), who gradually realize that there may be something more between them. At the time of the release of its first season, Heartstopper was lauded by critics and fans alike for its romance and representation of LGBTQ themes.
Heartstopper’s first two seasons are available to stream on Netflix.

How to watch: The Platform 2 releases October 4 on Netflix.
A sequel to the 2019 horror hit, The Platform films are set in a vertical prison system where a free-floating platform delivers food to inmates who are willing to do anything to get the biggest slice of the pie. While the first film delved into a prisoner trying to figure out a way to get food equally distributed across all the prison’s levels, it seems that The Platform 2 will instead tackle prisoners trying to escape the dystopian cell block, the origin behind the prison, and who’s really running it.

Convicted in 1996 for the murder of their parents, José and Mary Louis ‘Kitty’ Menendez, Erik and Lyle are set to recount their side of the
