Johnny Depp surprises children in hospital by transforming into Captain Jack Sparrow once more

Johnny Depp made a surprise visit to a children’s ward at Donostia University Hospital in San Sebastian, Spain, dressed as his iconic character, Captain Jack Sparrow.

Renowned for this particular role, Depp donned the Captain Jack Sparrow costume to bring joy to the young patients. He was in Spain to promote a new film he directed and took this opportunity to visit the hospital.

The visit took place on September 26, as revealed in the hospital’s social media posts.

Depp left the San Sebastian film festival and changed into his costume specifically for this occasion.

While at the hospital, he spent time on the paediatric ward, maintaining his character throughout his visit, reported by the newspaper El Diario Vasco.

The hospital expressed their gratitude on Twitter for Depp’s visit and thanked the San Sebastian Film Festival for making it possible.

The statement, written in Spanish, read: “From Osakidetza, and especially from all the personnel at the Donostia University Hospital, we would like to send infinite gratitude to Johnny Depp for his time, his support, and his energy, and shoutout to @sansebastianfes for having facilitated this visit.”

The hospital also shared: “They have shared laughs and anecdotes, and he has helped them forget for a few minutes the difficulties they are going through at the moment.

“It was a gift that brought joy to patients, families, nursing professionals, doctors, and all the staff who were working on the ward at the time.”

Depp has portrayed Captain Jack Sparrow in four films within the Pirates of the Caribbean series.

The series began with the 2003 release of Curse of the Black Pearl and concluded with Dead Men Tell No Tales, known internationally as Salazar’s Revenge.

The character of Captain Jack Sparrow was inspired by a mix of Bugs Bunny from Looney Tunes and Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards.

Depp’s visit to Spain was to promote his new film, Modi – Three Days on the Wing of Madness, which centers on Italian artist Modigliani, not Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Depp’s ex-wife, Amber Heard, who has accused him of domestic violence during their relationship, now resides in Spain. When asked about Depp’s visit, she reportedly said, “I’m living here in Madrid, I love Spain.

“I’m very lucky to be here, and regarding my past, I don’t feel like thinking or talking about it, because I’m happy and in peace.”

After the film festival, Depp is planning to return to the US, where, according to PEOPLE, he will inaugurate an exhibition in New York on October 4.
