A rapper created a buzz around the globe by embedding metal chains into his scalp, leading experts to caution others against emulating him.
Dan Sur, a Spanish artist, stirred attention in 2021 after informing his extensive TikTok audience that he transformed his hair into metal chains.
He provided details of the procedure in a video, which was nothing short of astonishing.
He explained: “I have it as a hook that is implanted in my head and that hook has hooks and they are all hooked in my skull, under my skin.
“This is my hair. Golden hair. The first rapper to have gold hair implanted in human history.”
Following skepticism about the authenticity of his chained hair, he demonstrated its reality by showing how the chains do not float in water.
While he appears satisfied with the aesthetic, experts quickly advised against others pursuing similar modifications.
Despite the visual appeal, chain hair poses significant health risks.
In 2021, Dr. Frank Agullo, a plastic surgeon, cautioned against implanting objects into the scalp after the rapper’s revelation.
The potential dangers are considerable.
He told Yahoo! News: “Implants like this are not safe. They introduce an easy path for bacteria between the outside world and the internal body. In this case, the bone covering the brain.

“In addition, I am concerned about the amount of weight these hooks are supporting. The weight or any accidental tug on a band of gold could cause the implant to dislodge and even fracture the skull.”
Reportedly, even when the rapper removes the chains, the hooks remain permanently attached to his scalp.
Dermatologist Dr. Mona Gohara noted that the artist might suffer ‘permanent hair loss from damage to the follicle’ owing to scalp inflammation and scarring.
Nonetheless, the rapper appears to be doing well with his decision to embed chains, having worn them for three years without reported issues.
Despite this, Agullo stated: “I would strongly discourage anyone [from undergoing this procedure], for all the risks and complications involved.
“Especially at a young age, long-term consequences need to be considered.
“I think there are other, more sensible, and easily reversible alternatives like wearing a wig with gold chains. I don’t believe that it needs to be anchored to your skull.
Gohara advised: “Be cautious! Weave in some gold strands onto your hair. You are much better off doing that.”
Since his procedure, the rapper has been seen showcasing various colored chains, including gold, silver, and multi-colored, to match his attire.
Despite numerous warnings of the associated risks, he seems committed to maintaining his unique style.
