There exists a commercial flight that astonishingly lasts only 90 seconds from takeoff to landing.
For those who are not fond of flying, the prospect of boarding a plane, barely having time to settle in, and then disembarking at the destination in such a short period likely seems ideal.
Regrettably, it is not a miraculous high-speed aircraft that whisks you away to the Maldives in mere seconds, and it is not exactly a spot for sunbathing, though it is undeniably picturesque.
The flight route was inaugurated in 1967 and operates every day except Saturdays, as reported by Deccan Herald.
With a capacity of just 10 passengers, the aircraft utilized is a BN2B-26 Islander.
Loganair operates this quick journey, or “hop,” between airports on the Orkney Islands in Scotland, specifically from Westray to Papa Westray.
The plane covers a mere 1.7 miles, completing the trip in 90 seconds.
In favorable weather conditions, the flight can take less than a minute, with one journey reportedly lasting just 47 seconds. Nonetheless, adverse weather can cause delays, even for such a brief flight.
Tickets for this short airborne experience are priced at approximately $30.
As expected, there is no in-flight meal service on this rapid route.
A video posted on Instagram by Aviation Heaven provides a visual glimpse of the flight, and it has quickly attracted social media attention.
One commenter remarked, “This video took even longer time.”
Another added, “Please fasten yo… thank you for flying.”
A third commenter mentioned, “The pilot is very experienced with 10,000+ flight hours and about 10-15 flying hours.”
A fourth quipped, “‘Cabin crew prepare for takeoff and landing’.”
Some users, however, had more serious observations.
One person noted, “There is something called ferries/boats, a mode of transport that floats on water with an engine, and travel time could be 10-15 minutes. This option is less costly and more productive.”
Although this flight holds the record for the shortest current commercial journey worldwide, equating in duration to many planes’ time on the runway, the record for the smallest runway is held elsewhere.
With its location on the edge of a cliff, deciding to venture there might require some contemplation.
