New details have emerged about the tragic passing of Liam Payne.
On Wednesday, October 16, Payne was found dead in a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, after reportedly falling from the balcony of his room.
The 31-year-old singer was allegedly under the influence at the time, with police discovering alcohol and medications such as clonazepam in his hotel room.
Payne succumbed to ‘internal and external’ bleeding.
Before his unfortunate demise, Payne attended a concert of his former One Direction bandmate, Niall Horan, accompanied by his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy.
He also posted a photo on Snapchat of himself and Horan, expressing their ‘reunion’.
While many questions linger about the circumstances surrounding Payne’s death, Argentinian authorities do not suspect foul play.
It has also been determined whether Payne was conscious when he fell.
An autopsy, translated by US Weekly, reveals: “No injuries were observed that would suggest the involvement of third parties.
“The prosecutor’s office indicated that, based on the position in which the body was found and the injuries from the fall, it is presumed that Payne did not adopt a reflexive posture to protect himself and may have fallen in a state of semi or total unconsciousness.”
Payne had been open about his struggles with mental health and substance abuse, and just last year, he celebrated being 100 days sober.
In an interview with iFL TV in May 2023, the ‘Get Low’ singer shared that he felt ‘amazing’.
“I’m sober now, over 100 days,” Payne revealed with pride.
“I feel amazing, I feel really, really good and the support from the fans has been really, really good, so I’m super happy.”
He also mentioned plans for his then-upcoming album: “I definitely want to tour this time, which is unusual because I wasn’t sure I was going to tour for a long time.
“I was kind of over it for a little bit, but I’m really excited to get back out on the road and go and see all the fans and get about a bit. It’s going to be fun.”
Despite this, reports surfaced earlier this month that his second album was put on hold, although Payne was reportedly ‘doing really well’ with it.
An insider informed The Sun: “Liam had been doing really well on his second album but now it’s completely on pause.”
“Liam is telling people now he has no idea if it’ll ever be released.”
