The Netflix Movie ‘Nail Biter’ So ‘Dark and Disturbing’ It Leaves Viewers Struggling to Finish

A film that has recently become part of Netflix’s offerings is proving to be so intense and unsettling that audiences are finding it hard to watch in its entirety.

Personally, I enjoy a gripping thriller, particularly ones that have me seeking refuge behind a pillow as I try to keep up with the plot.

This particular action-thriller is so intense that viewers have confessed to having trouble even ‘getting into it.’

Russell Crowe takes on the role of Tom Cooper, a man with mental instability who is experiencing a ‘tough time.’ His breaking point comes when a woman is impolite to him during rush-hour traffic one day.

He devises a plan for revenge against the mother and her young son, who is with her in the car, in some particularly disturbing ways.

New Zealand actress Caren Pistorius plays the role of mother Rachel Flynn, while Gabriel Bateman, known for Child’s Play, portrays her son, Kyle.

The film, which was initially released in 2020, is titled Unhinged.

The movie’s synopsis states: “After an exchange of words, she soon realizes that the mysterious man is following her and her young son in his truck. The initial case of road rage quickly escalates into full-blown terror as Rachel discovers the psychopath’s sinister plan for revenge.”

Unhinged is currently climbing the US Netflix rankings and is the second most-watched film on the platform, following Anna Kendrick’s Woman of the Hour.

Viewers have taken to the Facebook group Netflix Bangers to express their thoughts on the movie.

One individual shared: “Ok so the movie UNHINGED!! Is very dark and disturbing I couldn’t watch it. Anyone else feel that way?!”

Another concurred: “It was too shocking for me to get into”.

Several viewers admitted the film caused them to reconsider their driving behaviors, with one fan commenting: “I will likely never honk at someone again, that’s for sure. Watched it today. Unhinged is the perfect title.”

Another added: “Makes you never want to blow your horn again. It’s kept me on the edge of my seat and a nail biter!!”

The discussion extended to Twitter, where one user commented: “The movie “Unhinged” on Netflix is crazy and is one of the reasons I stay calm in most situations.” Another user added: “Man @netflix #Unhinged was nuts! Finished it 20 minutes ago, and my blood pressure is still high!”

Despite the enthusiastic fan endorsements, Unhinged did not fare as well with critics.

The film earned a relatively low 48 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, though fans rated it at 77 percent.

The critics’ consensus states: “Russell Crowe makes for a compulsively watchable villain, but Unhinged lacks enough intelligence or depth to get sufficient mileage out of its pulpy premise.”

Unhinged is available for streaming now on Netflix in the US and can also be watched on NOW elsewhere.
