Teacher reacts after awarding student a flawless score for submitting a 19-word Fight Club essay

A student daringly submitted a concise 19-word essay about Fight Club, which earned her full marks, yet it also resulted in a stern warning from her instructor.

Dealing with essays varies from person to person. Some prefer to tackle them promptly, others procrastinate until the deadline looms, and some explore every possible shortcut to meet the word count with minimal effort.

We’re all familiar with the trick of ‘writing random words and making the text white,’ right?

However, student Allison Garrett adopted a novel approach by completing her assignment without delving into the hard work.

Allison gained viral fame in 2019 after posting her remarkable essay on Twitter, revealing her school task of writing a movie review.

“The opportunity arose, and I took my chances…,” she stated in her post.

Allison included a screenshot of her essay titled ‘Fight Club,’ suggesting she chose to review the iconic 1999 film directed by David Fincher, featuring Edward Norton as ‘The Narrator’ and Brad Pitt as Tyler Durden.

Instead of multiple pages expressing her views on the film, Allison’s essay comprised just 19 words. If you’re familiar with the movie, you might guess those words.

She wrote: “The first rule of fight club is: you do not talk about fight club.”

Towards the end of the page, for good measure, she added: “That’s it. That’s the essay.”

Allison’s essay cleverly referenced the iconic line from the movie, offering an excuse to avoid further commentary. With a note expressing she was ‘proud’ rather than ‘sorry’ for her submission, she achieved a perfect score of 100/100.

However, Allison also received a response from her teacher, which included a cautionary note.

While they awarded Allison a top score, the teacher advised against relying on such a witty tactic.

The teacher wrote: “I struggled over this grade for a long time. I finally decided you get a grade for a laugh and how relevant your review is for this particular movie.”

However, the teacher then warned: “Let me warn you: do NOT try this kind of thing with other professors; they may not have my sense of humor.”

Allison was fortunate with her teacher in this case, but if you plan to try it, be aware you might not be as lucky.
