A TikTok physician has introduced a test that might provide some insight into whether someone might have autism.
It is important to note that this test does not serve as a conclusive diagnosis for autism; such a diagnosis requires assessment by a qualified healthcare provider. However, individuals with concerns can take this test to determine if further evaluation may be warranted.
The National Institute of Mental Health describes autism spectrum disorder (ASD) as “a neurological and developmental disorder that affects how people interact with others, communicate, learn, and behave.” Common symptoms include challenges with nonverbal communication, communication issues, and repetitive behaviors.
Dr. Sermed Mezher, a medical doctor who shares content on TikTok, recently highlighted the Autism Spectrum Quotient-10 (AQ-10) test in a viral video on the platform.
The AQ-10 is designed for those aged 16 and above and consists of ten questions that assess communication and social abilities.
In his TikTok video, Dr. Mezher explained, “The Autism Spectrum Quotient-10 is a brief screening tool designed to identify signs that may suggest a person could have autism.”
“It consists of ten questions that focus on social communication, behaviour, and how someone processes information.”
While the AQ-10 can signal the presence of autistic traits, it is not a diagnostic instrument.
@drsermedmezher “You Might Be on the Spectrum” #test The AQ-10 test, or the Autism Spectrum Quotient-10, is a brief screening tool designed to identify signs that may suggest a person could have autism. It consists of 10 questions that focus on social communication, behavior, and how someone processes information. While the AQ-10 can provide an indication of autistic traits, it is not a diagnostic tool. A high score on the AQ-10 suggests that further assessment might be necessary, but it cannot confirm an autism diagnosis. Instead, the test serves as a preliminary step to highlight whether a more comprehensive evaluation by a healthcare professional is warranted. An official diagnosis requires in-depth analysis, including clinical interviews, developmental history, and observations by specialists. The AQ-10 can be a useful first step in recognizing potential signs of autism, but it is not definitive—merely a guide to help determine if additional professional insights are needed. #neurodivergent #psych #psychology

He further emphasized, “An official diagnosis requires in-depth analysis, including clinical interviews, developmental history, and observations by specialists.”
“The AQ-10 can be a useful first step in recognizing potential signs of autism, but it is not definitive — merely a guide to help determine if additional professional insights are needed.”
“This test helps doctors to figure out if you could have autism or not. Scores of six or less make autism unlikely. Go with your first instinct.”
Test participants respond to each question by choosing from ‘definitely agree’, ‘slightly agree’, ‘slightly disagree’, and ‘definitely disagree’.
For those who suspect they may have autism after completing the test, consulting a healthcare provider is advised for guidance on subsequent actions.
