The proprietors of the race track where young Brooke Carlton tragically lost her life have announced their decision to shut down the venue.
Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park, situated approximately an hour away from downtown Los Angeles, California, released a statement on social media regarding their decision to close the track, occurring five months after Brooke’s unfortunate passing.
On the morning of June 2, Brooke was involved in a collision with another rider in what was described as a ‘freak accident’. She was rendered unconscious at the scene and subsequently transported to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
The other rider involved sustained minor injuries.
Earlier this week, on November 3, the track’s owner shared via Facebook: “It is with great sadness that we announce the closing of LEMX. Due to a lawsuit from a tragic accident that occurred in June the property owner has terminated our agreement as they are being brought into it as well.”
The post continued: “It was their decision It would be in their best interest to have the track closed. I can’t say as [sic] I blame them. All in all they have been very good to deal with as has the City of Lake Elsinore.”
“While there have been many challenges along the way, we have enjoyed operating the track very much.”
“It is my opinion that we were very lucky to have such a terrific group of customers as well as such fine people working at the track. It has been an honor and a pleasure to see you all at the track.”
Nevertheless, a lawyer for the Carlton family stated to CBS that although they have looked into the accident, no lawsuit has been filed against the motorsports park.
The legal representative further mentioned that Brooke’s family does not intend to harm the local motocross community. The Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park is noted as being the largest such facility in Southern California.
A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to assist Brooke’s family during this difficult time, having raised over $85,000 at the time of this report.
Ally Giles, the fundraiser’s organizer, shared a message from Brooke’s family on the page, which said: “Yesterday the good Lord called our dear Brooke Lily to heaven after a freak accident at a local motocross track. Our entire family is still trying to understand why our Brookie, but we firmly believe that God needed her and called her home to be with him.”
“While we take this time to be with our family, PLEASE lift our family into your thoughts and prayers, and hold your loved ones a little tighter for us as we try to navigate through this sudden hurdle in our lives. We love you always and forever Brooke Lily. #irideforbrooke.”
