A YouTuber is currently in the midst of a month-long solitary confinement challenge, which has raised concerns among his viewers as he livestreams the experience.
While some people enjoy solitude for short periods, YouTuber Norme has taken it to the extreme by attempting to spend an entire month in isolation. His goal is to potentially set a new World Record.
A search on the Guinness World Records’ website shows there’s no current record for the longest duration in solitary confinement. The closest record listed is for the longest time spent on death row.
At 45 years, he’s far from matching the latter, but the absence of a similar record highlights the unique challenge he’s undertaken in his secluded room.
As of November 7, his livestream video has been ongoing for more than 547 hours, surpassing 22 days. Norme can be seen moving around his confined space and lying on a small bed. The visible damage to the walls suggests he has faced some difficult times during the challenge.
Viewers have the option to interact with the stream by sending money to the YouTuber. He charges $5 for a handstand, $20 for 15 minutes in a straightjacket, and $50 to have his mouth taped for one hour.
For $10, viewers can provide Norme with food.
Although he occasionally exits the room for short breaks, possibly for basic necessities, viewers have expressed concern about his mental well-being as the days progress.
One commenter remarked: “this is genuinely depressing,” while another questioned: “he has done this willingly[?]”
A third viewer added: “They gotta go get this guy this is not normal.”
Some viewers worry Norme might be causing lasting harm to his brain, though others are encouraging him to see the challenge through.
One supportive viewer wrote, “It’s been 23 days you got 7 days left you got this bro.”
Norme has acknowledged having moments of doubt during the challenge but is determined to continue.
This rigorous livestream follows Norme’s previous attempts to break the world record for longest time without sleep. Although he endured 264 hours of wakefulness, he fell short of the official record of 453 hours.
