When Edwin Castro, aged 31, won the monumental $2 billion Powerball Jackpot, his life dramatically changed.
Castro, hailing from California, bought the winning ticket at a local gas station in November 2022. However, he only came forward to claim his life-altering prize in February 2023.
With the biggest jackpot in history, Castro opted for a lump sum of $997.6 million, instantly propelling him close to billionaire status.
Since then, Castro has indulged in several extravagant acquisitions. What has he spent his fortune on so far?
Castro has amassed an impressive array of real estate, including a $25.5 million residence in Hollywood Hills, a $4 million estate elsewhere in California, and a $47 million mansion in Los Angeles.
His first major acquisition, just weeks after securing his winnings, was the Hollywood Hills property.
This 13,500-square-foot mansion occupies a 0.58-acre plot and features five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a game room, a wine cellar, a movie theater, a bar, a spa, and a fitness studio.
Some of his celebrity neighbors reportedly include Dakota Johnson, Jimmy Kimmel, and Ariana Grande.
The second mansion was bought in Altadena, California, Castro’s hometown, offering stunning views of the San Gabriel Mountains. It boasts five bedrooms, four bathrooms, a pool, and a movie theater.
More recently, Castro invested in a $47 million Los Angeles home, purchased from celebrity real estate agent Mauricio Umansky. This luxurious home has seven bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, a koi pond, and an expansive infinity pool.
Alongside these grand homes, a luxurious car collection was naturally the next step.
Castro reportedly acquired a vintage white Porsche for $250,000.
The DailyMail reported that Castro’s automotive collection has grown to include a gray Ram 1500 TRX, three Volkswagen Karmann Ghias, a green 1970s Porsche 356, and a black Porsche 1980s 911.
In July, Castro shared on Twitter: “Excited to give back to the community that supported me before I won the lottery! I’ve decided to buy new cars for all my loved ones and provide funds to help people start their own businesses. Thrilled to share this journey of success with those who matter most!”
After cashing in on his fortune, Castro treated his family to a lavish vacation in Fiji.
He posted on X: “Enjoying unforgettable moments with my family in Fiji – soaking up the sun, exploring pristine beaches, and creating cherished memories together in this island paradise.”
Upon returning from Fiji, Castro reportedly arranged for a security team to protect himself and his family.
