Dwayne Johnson shares story of firing agent who doubted his potential to exceed Will Smith’s achievements

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has achieved tremendous success due to his clear vision and determination. His journey began in 1996 when he entered the wrestling world, and by 2004, he had transitioned to acting, with his film debut in “The Mummy Returns” in 2001.

Johnson gained notoriety as The Rock, quickly becoming a fan favorite. He was strategic in his pursuits, exemplified by his ‘no lose’ contract clause, which is a unique aspect of his career.

To explain, this clause is part of every movie contract he signs, ensuring that he never loses a fight on screen or endures excessive punishment in his roles.

The Wall Street Journal highlighted that Vin Diesel was the pioneer of such a clause within the Fast and Furious series.

Diesel reportedly created a system assigning numerical values to each hit he took on screen, which were tracked by a producer, his younger sister, to ensure compliance with his contract conditions.

Inspired by this, Johnson and Jason Statham incorporated similar clauses into their agreements.

Focusing on Johnson’s rise beyond The Rock persona, his star power is evident in his frequent appearances in blockbuster films over the past five years.

As a widely recognized figure, he arguably rivals or surpasses the fame of actors like Brad Pitt or Leonardo DiCaprio. His decision to part ways with an agent who doubted his ability to reach Will Smith’s level of success was clearly a wise move.

In a GQ interview, Johnson reflected on his career shift from wrestling to international stardom, revealing that around 2002 he recognized the industry’s top players.

The publication noted, “He went to his agents and said, despite whatever recent setbacks he’d experienced, he had an idea, or simply an ambition: He wanted to have the career of George Clooney or Will Smith.”

“But bigger, perhaps, or better. When his agents seemed sceptical of this plan, he found new agents.”

Johnson’s confidence led him to dismiss his manager, understanding that he needed supporters to achieve his goals. He now stands as one of the wealthiest actors globally.
