Jake Paul and Mike Tyson will be facing suspensions following their recent boxing match.
At 27, former Disney Channel star Paul managed to score more points during the eagerly awaited fight on Friday night.
This matchup has been anticipated for quite some time by boxing enthusiasts keen to see YouTuber Paul square off against legendary boxer Tyson, who is now 58.
The event took place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and was broadcast worldwide on Netflix.
However, the suspension of both fighters is not due to any rule violations.
The mandatory break is a result of a directive from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which was responsible for overseeing the Arlington fight.
Regardless of the outcome, both Tyson and Paul are required to rest for a minimum of seven days.
Additional rest days are based on the number of rounds completed, with an extra three days for each round. Given that the fight lasted eight rounds, they’re expected to be sidelined for up to 24 days.
Leading up to the event, both fighters made bold statements. Paul even claimed that Tyson ‘must die,’ while Tyson made it clear that he wasn’t ‘intimidated or afraid’ of Paul.
Despite Paul’s win, Tyson doesn’t believe that his defeat signifies the end of his time in the ring.
When asked about the possibility of retiring, Tyson commented after the match: “I don’t know. It depends on the situation.”
“I don’t think so,” he reiterated.
Tyson went on to commend Paul’s performance, calling him a ‘good fighter.’
“I didn’t prove nothing to anyone, just myself,” Tyson added.
“I’m not one of these guys who goes out to please the world, I’m just happy with what I can do.”
When questioned after the fight about whether he was ‘pulling’ punches against Tyson, Paul responded: “I was scared he was going to hurt me, I was trying to hurt him.”
Addressing whether he eased up in the later rounds, Paul admitted: “Yeah, definitely, definitely a bit. I wanted to give the fans a show, but I didn’t want [to hurt him].”
Paul expressed that it was an ‘honor’ to face Tyson in the ring and referred to him as an ‘icon.’
