The winner of this year’s Golden Globe for Best Musical or Comedy has been announced.
In the category, several of 2024’s major films were nominated, with many anticipating that Wicked would take home the prize.
However, the award went to Emilia Pérez, leading some to claim that Wicked was unfairly overlooked.
One Twitter user expressed their frustration: “WICKED WAS F***ING ROBBED. IT SHOULDVE BEEN SWEEPINGGGGG like wake up peopleeee [sic].”
Another added: “Wicked getting robbed all night wth.”
Regarding Ariana Grande’s performance in Wicked, a fan commented: “I’m sorry but Ariana grande was robbed at the golden globes because her performance in wicked was literally perfect.”
Grande was nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
Another person remarked, “Wicked was robbed, it is the best musical,” upset over Wicked’s limited success at the awards.
The film adaptation of the popular musical was also up for two additional awards, including Cynthia Erivo for Best Leading Actress, alongside Grande’s nomination and Wicked’s nod for Best Musical or Comedy.
Wicked did walk away with the award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.
