Man who consumed 35,000 McDonald’s burgers reveals impact on his health

A man who has consumed a staggering number of Big Macs throughout his life has shared insights into how his unique eating habits have affected his health.

Donald Gorske, aged 71, has held the Guinness World Record for the most Big Macs eaten since 1999.

By the end of last year, Donald had devoured 34,128 Big Macs, with 728 of those being eaten in 2023 alone.

Originally from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Donald is a long-standing Guinness World Record holder.

His journey with Big Macs began in 1972 and, from that point, he was certain he would eat countless more.

He recounted to Guinness World Records, “I threw the cartons in the back seat and started counting them from day one.”

At the height of his burger consumption, Donald would eat up to nine in a single day. Nowadays, he sticks to two a day: one for lunch and another for dinner.

Despite the nature of his diet, Donald claims his health has remained stable.

In an effort to maintain some semblance of health, he skips fries when ordering Big Macs and incorporates a six-mile walk into his daily routine.

Last year, he remarked, “Many people thought I’d be dead by now but instead I’ve been a record holder for my 24th year. One of Guinness World Records’ longer-running record holders, so that’s pretty cool to me.”

Donald is an exception in the realm of heavy fast food consumption, as experts consistently advise minimizing junk food intake.

In fact, a surgeon has described fast food as something that is ‘actively poisoning’ individuals.

Cardiac surgeon Dr. Jeremy London warned, “Most of what’s available in fast food chains is ‘edible food product’, it’s not even real food.”

Cardiologist Lauren Baldwin shared similar views, noting that fast food is one of several items to avoid in order to prevent heart disease.

She advised, “The key is to avoid having these foods as a regular part of your diet.”

“Like some other foods on this list, they are high in sodium. But even worse is that many fast-food restaurants are still using trans fats.”

Baldwin added, “These are the least healthy fats you can eat, since they raise your bad cholesterol levels, while also lowering your good cholesterol levels.

“One of the reasons these fats continue to be used – particularly with fried foods – is that they have a longer shelf life.”
