Air India was alerted to alarming safety concerns days before crash that killed 270

Air India reportedly received a troubling alert in the days prior to the crash of a plane that resulted in nearly 300 fatalities.

Last Thursday (June 12), an Air India aircraft with 242 passengers crashed shortly after takeoff. Initially, it was believed there were no survivors from the tragedy, but astonishingly, a British national survived.

The crash also resulted in casualties on the ground in Ahmedabad.

The London-bound flight was airborne for less than a minute before the disaster occurred.

It’s been disclosed that Air India received a warning from India’s aviation regulator shortly before the catastrophic event.

According to Reuters, three Airbus planes were flagged for concern due to ‘overdue checks on emergency equipment, and for being slow to address the issue’, as stated in government documents.

It’s important to note that this warning was not related to Flight 171, which crashed last week. The aircraft involved in the crash was a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) indicated that the checks in question were conducted in May. Allegedly, checks on one of the planes were three months overdue, yet Air India continued to use the aircraft for domestic routes.

“The above cases indicate that aircraft were operated with expired or unverified emergency equipment, which is a violation of standard airworthiness and safety requirements,” a portion of the critical DGCA report stated.

The report also mentioned that the airline ‘failed to submit timely compliance responses’ concerning deficiencies highlighted by the regulatory body.

The release of this report not only follows last week’s tragic crash but also comes after another Air India flight was compelled to return mid-flight on June 16 due to a suspected technical issue identified by the pilot.

Following the incident, an Air India spokesperson informed the press: “AI315 operating from Hong Kong to Delhi on 16 June 2025 air-returned to Hong Kong shortly after take off due to a technical issue. The flight landed safely at Hong Kong and is undergoing checks as a matter of abundant precaution.

“Alternative arrangements have been planned to fly the passengers to their destination Delhi at the earliest. We are providing all necessary on-ground assistance to the passengers to minimise the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen disruption.”
