Netflix viewers devour ‘greatest series ever’ for 686 million hours as spin-off approaches

Netflix viewers have been captivated by an ‘epic’ television series that has spawned multiple spin-offs, with even more on the horizon.

Featuring over 7,000 titles, the leading streaming service often leaves viewers puzzled about what to watch next.

If you’re looking to invest your time wisely, consider a show boasting five robust seasons and three spin-offs, with three more in the pipeline.

The series has amassed over 686 million hours of viewing between January 2024 and June 2025 alone, as reported by FlixPatrol.

Given that the American series first premiered in 2018, the cumulative viewership is likely much higher.

Recently, there was significant news about one of the series’ anticipated follow-ups, called Rio Palo.

On Monday, August 11, Brooks Williams, the city manager of Ferris, Texas, announced that the area would serve as the setting for the new series as production begins.

Filming locations include a ranch with a mansion, the city’s downtown area, and its outskirts, utilizing the region’s ‘unique landscapes and elevation changes.’

The original show stars Kevin Costner as John Dutton, the patriarch of a powerful family running the largest cattle ranch in the United States.

Set in Montana, the family is frequently under threat from greedy land developers, a neighboring Native American reservation, and the ever-expanding Yellowstone National Park.

This is Yellowstone, from the creative minds of Taylor Sheridan and John Linson.

Over its five seasons, Yellowstone has received an average rating of 83 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. While its first season received a score of 58 percent, the series gradually improved, reaching a perfect score of 100 for its third season.

“One of the greatest shows of all time,” a fan commented. “The writing and direction by Taylor Sheridan is absolutely flawless. Great story and amazing characters that you fall in love with.”

Another viewer described the show as ‘epic in many ways,’ while a third noted, “Slow paced at first, but stick with it, the whole story is a gem. Top acting and writing.”

Some admitted they took ‘forever’ to start watching the show, but were delighted when they finally did.

For those in the UK, Yellowstone is available to stream on Netflix, while viewers in the US can watch it on Peacock.

Once you’ve completed all five seasons—53 episodes in total—there are three spin-offs to explore: 1883, 1923, and Lawmen: Bass Reeves.

The first two expand directly on Yellowstone, while the third, also from Sheridan, is set in the same universe but outside the Dutton family circle.

In addition to Rio Palo, the development of 1944 and 6666 (Four Sixes) is reportedly underway. The Yellowstone universe will further expand with The Madison and a series focusing on young John Dutton. Exciting developments are ahead!

Yellowstone is currently available for streaming on Netflix in the UK and Peacock in the US.
