Donald Trump has weighed in on the engagement of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.
Many fans had been anticipating this moment, and it finally happened when Kelce proposed to his superstar girlfriend, and she accepted.
The couple shared the happy news on Instagram yesterday (August 26), along with a series of photos capturing the proposal.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” Swift captioned the post.
The engagement quickly grabbed headlines worldwide and even caught attention at the White House.
During a conference, a reporter asked President Trump about the newly-engaged couple. “The world wants your reaction,” she told the President.
Trump responded: “I think that he’s a great player and a great guy, and I think that she’s a terrific person. So I wish them a lot of luck.”
His remarks marked a notable shift from his previous comments about the singer. Earlier this month, Trump expressed his disdain for Swift.
“Just look at Woke singer Taylor Swift,” he commented on Truth Social. “Ever since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can’t stand her (HATE!). She was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT.”
Reacting to this change in attitude, one Twitter user remarked: “He thinks she’s terrific now? Interesting.”
“‘She’s a terrific person’ as he was hating on her on Twitter LITERALLY a month ago,” another user noted.
Others pointed out that while Swift and Kelce’s engagement is newsworthy, there are more urgent matters the president should focus on.
One person tweeted: “The US has bigger issues going on and they’re asking the president about his opinion on Taylor’s engagement announcement…”
“How is this related to his position right now? Taylor’s engagement is big but doesn’t affect anyone at all,” another wrote.
Someone else sarcastically added: “Honestly I’m glad they asked about this. I really wanted to hear his thoughts on this.”
Echoing similar sentiments, another individual questioned on social media: “Why is the president being asked this? He has a billion other things to answer and we ask him this?”
A potentially more significant topic could be Trump’s ongoing efforts to mediate a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia.
The president recently engaged in talks with both Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy. While no agreement has been finalized, it was reported that there has been ‘progress’.
