A man has shared the significant savings he achieved by driving a Tesla as opposed to a conventional gasoline vehicle.
Tesla enthusiasts often boast about the financial benefits of transitioning from traditional cars to electric vehicles. When you examine the savings, it becomes evident why there is such enthusiasm.
One Tesla Model 3 owner, for instance, disclosed the considerable monthly savings he experienced after making the switch to an electric vehicle.
Over a span of five years, he covered over 100,000 miles, primarily charging his vehicle at home. He estimates a monthly savings of around $200 since adopting a Tesla. Impressive!
A common concern among potential EV owners is the fear of increased electricity bills, but this worry is largely unfounded.
EV Kiwi, a YouTuber, shared that he utilizes off-peak rates for charging his Tesla Model 3 overnight, a straightforward strategy to reduce expenses when owning an electric vehicle.
Over the course of a year, he traveled 13,256 km (8,237 miles) and conducted nearly half of his charging at home, with 93% occurring during off-peak periods.
Based on his 2022 calculations, this resulted in an annual cost of just $170 USD for home charging, averaging a mere 14 dollars a month.
The YouTuber was pleasantly surprised, noting that prior to owning a Tesla, his monthly fuel expenses were approximately $41.
In terms of public charging costs, he spent about $114 ($179 NZD) over the year, culminating in a total expenditure of $285 ($448 NZD).
When the video was created, gasoline prices in New Zealand were approximately 2.77 cents per litre.
Using these rates, driving 13,256 km would have required 1,233 litres of gasoline, amounting to $3,416 NZD. Quite expensive.
In contrast, the actual cost of operating his Tesla was significantly lower, resulting in a savings of $2,698 NZD that year.
