12-Year-Old Soccer Player Endures Severe Injuries After Prank Backfires

A young soccer enthusiast, aged 12, has suffered severe burns across his body after a prank in a local park took a dangerous turn.

Lucas Baldock, who hails from Mudgeeraba near the Gold Coast in Australia, got into a serious accident last Friday (September 26) due to the explosion of a deodorant can that was set on fire.

To aid in his recovery, family friend Carriae Sempf has initiated a GoFundMe to support Lucas, detailing the incident that left the budding athlete with significant injuries.

“A child at Lucas’ local park lit a deodorant can and called Lucas over,” she explained.

“Lucas approached, not knowing what was happening. Another child then threw something at the deodorant can, causing it to explode. Lucas is now suffering from burns over his entire body.

“Lucas called his mother, Sandy, from the park, screaming that he was engulfed in flames. It’s heartbreaking for both Lucas and Sandy. Such a terrifying and dramatic ordeal for them both.”

Due to this incident, Lucas was unable to participate in a national futsal tournament representing Queensland, which was scheduled just a few days following the accident.

A poignant image on the fundraiser page shows Lucas in a hospital bed, his face suffering from severe burns, and his arm and leg wrapped in bandages.

“What was expected to be four fantastic days on the futsal court has now turned into numerous hospital visits and possibly surgery for Lucas. Understandably, Lucas is in a lot of pain,” Sempf noted.

She concluded with: “Lucas. A wonderful child. An innocent victim of a thoughtless act.”

In a positive update shared yesterday, a new photo displayed the young boy smiling next to a teammate, even amidst his facial injuries.

“So lovely to see Lucas smile again!” Sempf announced. “A massive thank you to everyone who has supported Lucas! Our community is truly remarkable.”

The blast has been concluded as an accident by Queensland Police, following an investigation by the Gold Coast Child Protection and Investigation Unit.

“All parents discussed the matter and chose not to file a formal complaint. There is no further police involvement,” a representative mentioned to the Daily Mail.

This week, the GoFundMe has gathered nearly $6,000 to assist Lucas and his family with his medical needs.

“If you can contribute even a little to help this wonderful family manage their medical expenses, please do,” Sempf urged.
