Michael Archer Jr., the offspring of R&B icons D’Angelo and Angie Stone, has shared his feelings after the recent loss of both his parents within a few months.
D’Angelo, born Michael Eugene Archer, passed away on October 14. His family released a statement acknowledging that the family’s ‘shining star’ had ‘dimmed his light for us in this life’.
“After a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer, we are heartbroken to announce that Michael D’Angelo Archer, known to his fans around the world as D’Angelo, has been called home, departing this life today, October 14th, 2025,” the family stated.
D’Angelo’s diagnosis was pancreatic cancer. A family acquaintance informed People that his son, Michael, had been present during his father’s time in the hospital.
“People are really worried about Mike right now,” the source remarked, noting that the 27-year-old has ‘endured a lot in such a brief period’.
In the months preceding D’Angelo’s passing, Michael’s mother, Stone, died on March 1 due to a car accident. She was 63 years old.
Michael recently released a statement following the loss of both parents, expressing to People his gratitude for the support he has received ‘during these very difficult times’.
“It has been a very rough and sad year for me,” he stated. “I ask that you please continue to keep me in your thoughts as it will not be easy, but one thing that both my parents taught me was to be strong, and I intend to do just that.”
Michael’s comments join numerous tributes that have been pouring in for D’Angelo after his passing. His family also shared: “We are saddened that he can only leave dear memories with his family, but we are eternally grateful for the legacy of extraordinarily moving music he leaves behind. We ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time but invite you all to join us in mourning his passing while also celebrating the gift of song that he has left for the world.”
Beyoncé Knowles honored D’Angelo on her website, calling him the ‘pioneer of neo-soul’.
“That changed and transformed rhythm and blues forever,” the global music star remarked, adding: “We will never forget you.”
Throughout his illustrious career, D’Angelo received numerous Grammy nominations, securing wins for Best R&B Album and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.
