Meaning behind ‘hung smile’ as people believe NSFW term hints at a man’s penis size

Throughout the years, numerous peculiar trends have emerged suggesting methods to predict a man’s penis size. Most lack scientific support, but a new and particularly odd theory has surfaced on social media, and it might be the strangest one yet.

On platforms like X and Reddit, people are discussing the concept of a ‘hung smile.’ This is described as a type of grin that some believe signals ‘big d**k energy.’

Several individuals are posting images of certain male celebrities, claiming they exhibit this ‘hung smile’—a smug sort of smirk.

A TikToker by the handle @stephenbrenland elaborated on this idea: “Only a certain specific group of men can do this smile, and it’s because they’re actually ‘hung’ if you know what I mean.”

He continued, “When a man is well-endowed […] he gives this specific smile and it’s not like ‘I’m so happy,’ it’s more like a smug smirk, sometimes with teeth. The corners of his mouth don’t even go up that much, but they are up a little bit. It just has so much confidence behind it. A lot of men who are hung will use this smile because they know what they’re non-verbally saying to you.”

In the online discussion, celebrities like Superman actor David Corenswet, Evan Peters, and Hugh Jackman have been identified as showcasing this particular smile.

Grindr’s sex and relationship expert, Zachary Zane, has shared his insights on the phenomenon. He stated: “A hung smile is a specific, knowing smirk that exudes confidence and suggests the man smiling is well-endowed. It’s rarely a big, teeth-baring smile, there’s usually a subtlety and a hint of naughtiness, giving the impression that they’re hiding a big surprise in their pants.”

However, Zane pointed out that there is no scientific basis for the trend, clarifying: “There’s no scientific correlation between someone’s smile and their penis size, this is purely a playful cultural shorthand.”

On another note, Dr. Rena Malik discussed on the Diary of a CEO podcast that while predicting a man’s penis size isn’t feasible, one body part might provide some clues. She noted: “There’s one study – it’s a Japanese study where they looked at only Japanese men so there are some limitations – but they measured all these body parts and penile length and they found was that nose length was correlated with penile length, not hand length or foot.”
