John Stamos has addressed the ongoing speculation about his feelings towards his former Full House co-star, Lori Loughlin.
Widely recognized for his role as Uncle Jesse Katsopolis in the popular ABC sitcom from the late ’80s to the mid-’90s, Stamos returned to the character in Fuller House, the Netflix sequel series that aired from 2016 to 2020, alongside Loughlin, who played Aunt Becky.
Fans have long speculated whether their on-screen chemistry translated into a real-life romance when the cameras were off.
At 62, Stamos discussed the topic candidly on the Good Guys podcast.
In the conversation, Stamos clarified that their relationship remained platonic, although they might have shared a kiss once.
“A lot of people think, ‘Oh, you guys were romantic,’ or whatever,” Stamos remarked, acknowledging that his remark about Loughlin being the ‘one that got away’ had fueled these rumors.
“You know, I happened to say she was the one that got away in something – I think it was before I met [wife] Caitlin [McHugh] – and, you know, it was an interesting thing.”
He referenced his 2023 memoir, If You Would Have Told Me: A Memoir, noting a brief period when they were both single.
Stamos also compared Loughlin to Sandy from Grease, describing her as ‘before the leather,’ and his ex-wife Rebecca Romijn as the character ‘after the leather and the ‘Tell me about it, stud’.”
Though it might seem less flattering, the ER star admitted he preferred ‘rebellious’ women.
“Lori was so sweet, and I loved working with her, but she was too nice for me,” he admitted.
When podcast hosts Ben Soffer and Josh Peck asked if he would ever leave his wife, whom he married in 2018, for Loughlin, Stamos responded emphatically.
“No f***ing way!”, he exclaimed. “I’m not Mormon. Do you do that with your wife? Are you a swinger?”
However, Stamos did recall a moment he thought they shared, which was ‘always platonic.’
“I always thought that we made out on some ride at Disneyland – I’ve known her since the early ’80s. I remembered, I think she said it didn’t happen.
“So, I don’t know if it was something I made up in my mind. You know, some kind of fantasy.”
Recently, it has been reported that Loughlin has separated from fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli after nearly 28 years of marriage.
Despite not filing for divorce, Stamos mentioned that he and Caitlin have been supportive of Loughlin.
“She lives in my neighborhood, Lori, and so, you know, I was over there a lot and she came to our house a couple times and Caitlin’s been good about it,” he noted.
“I’m just heartbroken for her right now. She’s just devastated,” he added.
When reached by PEOPLE, Giannulli declined to comment, stating he had ‘zero comments’ on the situation.
