In a recent interview, Dakota Johnson, famed for her role in Fifty Shades of Grey, addressed the topic of her bold fashion choices on the red carpet. Johnson, who is 36, has occasionally chosen to don what is often termed as a ‘naked’ dress at various high-profile events. She’s not alone in this fashion decision, as other celebrities like Zendaya, ZoĆ« Kravitz, and Bella Hadid have also chosen outfits that are more revealing for the cameras.
The spectrum of these fashion choices varies greatly. For instance, Bianca Censori made headlines with a completely sheer dress at the Grammys. Last month, Johnson wore a black Gucci dress that was high-necked and long-sleeved, yet entirely see-through.
In her interview with Vogue Germany, Johnson was questioned: “Over the years, you’ve made some revealing fashion choices. Do you ever worry about whether a naked dress might be ‘too sexy’?”

Johnson’s view on the matter was unequivocal: “I really don’t care.”
She emphasized that her comfort in the dress is what matters most to her. Johnson elaborated: “I’ve been able to wear some of the most beautiful dresses, and I feel beautiful in them, so I wear them. Sometimes those dresses look good on me. But there are also some we’ve tried on that didn’t look good at all.”
“It depends on the shape, the finish, the color, and everything else. So if I find a beautiful dress that I feel comfortable in, of course I want to wear it! And it’s fun to wear a sexy dress.”

Further in the interview, Johnson reflected on how her upbringing influenced her body positivity. She credited her mother for instilling a sense of pride in her body from a young age, saying, “She taught us how to take care of our bodies and love them, and that our bodies are beautiful.”
“And I think that’s something really important for a young girl because we’re constantly told that we’re not good enough. And if you’re not told from a young age by the woman you look up to the most that you’re perfect and smart and special and strong and brave, it can really break you.”
“It’s hard to re-teach yourself that love later on. That was a huge gift she gave me.”
